Surgeon General's Call for Warning Labels about Social Media

The U.S. Surgeon General makes the case in the NY Times (June 17, 2024) that a health warning label should be placed on social media platforms.  This would be comparable to health warning labels that appear--by law--on packs of cigarettes due to proven health risks of lung cancer.  The Surgeon General's essay has led to quite a bit of push-back from researchers as well as people in the social media industry who feel that focusing on the risks to youth from social media use ignores the benefits.
